It’s sword-and-sandal time with this four-time Oscar-winning epic. A legendary Thracian slave rises from the gladiator pits of Rome to lead an uprising against an empire. “This may be the most literate of all the spectacles set in antiquity” (Jonathan Rosenbaum), and the most quotable one as well!
